B2B leads in the Netherlands: what they are, the seven sources, and what a lead may cost

Tips

The short answer

A B2B lead is a company, and a person inside it, that has shown interest in what you sell and that you can reach. "Business leads" and "sales leads" mean the same thing; the first only says the buyer is a company, the second that the lead sits with sales rather than marketing. In the Netherlands, B2B leads come from seven sources, from your own website visitors to a booked appointment, and they differ mainly in two things: how warm the lead is, and what it costs. This page sets the seven sources side by side and says per source what you may do with it, because since 1 July 2026 the Dutch rules decide more than the price does.

What a lead is exactly, and when it counts as qualified, is in what is a lead. This page is about where you get them in the Netherlands.

B2B leads, business leads, sales leads: three words, one thing

The difference is not in the lead but in who uses the word. Marketing says "B2B leads" and counts forms and downloads. Sales says "sales leads" and counts companies a conversation is possible with. Agencies say "business leads" and usually mean a booked appointment. A team that works together needs one definition, and it is simple: a company that fits, a person you may approach, and a reason to do so now. Anything without those three is a company list, not a lead.

The seven sources of B2B leads in the Netherlands

Source

How warm

What it costs

Where it goes wrong

1. Inbound requests (form, demo, quote)

Warm: the lead came to you

The cost of your website and content

Too few, and not steerable week by week

2. Identified website visitors

Lukewarm: the company looked, the person is unknown

49 to 499 euros a month for the tool

Roughly 30% of visitors are identified; the company, never the person

3. Existing customers and their network

Warm

Almost nothing

Small, and nobody asks systematically

4. Companies with a trigger (vacancy, new director, move, growth)

Cold but with a reason

Registers free; a database with signals on subscription

Needs a list and phone work

5. A bought address file or contact data

Cold

Cents a row to a few euros a contact

No trigger, no consent, ages from day one

6. Qualified leads from an agency

Lukewarm, by the agency's definition

50 to 500 euros a lead

"Qualified" means something different at every agency

7. A booked appointment

Warm on paper

150 to 750 euros an appointment

No-shows and wrong roles often count

The prices per lead and per appointment come from Searchlab (17 March 2026) and Leadworks, both parties that sell leads themselves; the detail is in buying B2B leads in the Netherlands. The tool prices for visitor identification come from Leadinfo and are in website visitor identification tools.

Which source to pick first

The order is the reverse of what most teams do. Start with what you already have: inbound requests and existing customers are free and warm, and almost no team calls every customer after three months to ask who else has this problem. Then add website visitors, because those are companies that already know you. Only then comes outbound, and then with a trigger: a company that is hiring, a new director, a move, growth in the accounts. That trigger is what separates a cold lead from a name on a list. In the Netherlands it does not replace consent: calling a sole trader or partnership has needed prior consent since 2021, and since 1 July 2026 even when it is an existing customer, while calling a BV is still allowed.

Buying comes last, and only for a bounded question: a campaign in one region, a test in a new sector, an event. Why is in buying B2B leads in the Netherlands; when an agency does make sense, in outsourcing lead generation.

What a B2B lead may cost

Work back from the customer, not forward from the lead. Say a qualified lead costs 200 euros, one in four turns into a conversation and you close one in five conversations. A customer then costs 4,000 euros in leads. At an order value of 25,000 euros that is fine; at 2,500 euros you lose money on every customer. The same sum for a self-built list: a salesperson who spends a day a week on list and triggers costs perhaps 600 euros a week and produces five to ten conversations with a reason. Which of the two wins depends on your order value, not on the agency's opinion or the salesperson's.

From lead to customer: the three steps that count

  • Qualify the company first, then the person. If the company does not fit, the most enthusiastic contact is not a lead. How to do that fast is in lead qualification.

  • Call within a day with the trigger in your first sentence. A lead ages faster than a list. The call is in B2B cold calling in Europe.

  • Record every lead with date, source and trigger. It is the only way to see in a quarter which source produced customers and which only produced leads.

If you build the list yourself, the five steps are in how to build a B2B lead list; if you want to go from list to conversation, the order is in generating leads. Bizzy supplies company data from the official registers for Belgium and through Creditsafe for the Netherlands, together with the contacts and the triggers (vacancies, website visits, job changes) on one record, so sources 2 and 4 come together in one list.

Leads are one step of a larger system; the seven acquisition channels ranked by cost per customer are in winning B2B customers in the Netherlands.

Frequently asked questions

What are B2B leads? Companies, and people inside them, that have shown interest in what you sell and that you can reach. In practice teams use the word for any company that fits and where a contact and a trigger are known.

What is the difference between B2B leads and business leads? None. "Business" or "zakelijk" is just another word for B2B. "Sales leads" are the same leads, seen from sales rather than marketing.

Where do you get B2B leads in the Netherlands? From seven sources: inbound requests, identified website visitors, existing customers, companies with a trigger from the registers, bought addresses or contact data, qualified leads from an agency and booked appointments. They differ in warmth and in price.

What does a B2B lead cost? From cents a row for an address file to 50 to 500 euros for a qualified lead and 150 to 750 euros for a booked appointment. Work back from the customer to know what you can afford.

May I just call or email B2B leads? Not just like that. Since 1 July 2021 a commercial call to a sole trader or partnership has needed prior consent, and since 1 July 2026 that includes existing customers; calling a BV is allowed. Email to legal persons usually needs consent. The rules are in cold outreach rules in Europe.
